First ever cover of Slam Magazine

Fact: In order to be a good writer you have to enjoy reading.

Fact: Every writer writes based on their inspiration and/or experience.

When I was younger the only thing that I enjoyed reading were sports Magazines. My parents allowed me to express my creativity and I had sports pictures and cut outs all over my wall. I wish I had a picture cause the room my brother and I shared was c-o-v-e-r-e-d with sports pictures. Back then the only sports magazine out was Sports Illustrated but there was something that didn’t allow me to fully connect. Fast forward to 1994 an urban, brash, in-your-face magazine called SLAM came on the scene and I instantly connected with it. The first writer who pulled me into his world of words was Scoop Jackson. This post is inspired by his first article he wrote when he got to ESPN entitled “The Scoop Manifesto” .

Thanks to all those who blazed the path for young writers to write their own manifesto.

“Can’t Wait”

Bart Scott is "likes to fight guy"

I would be doing a disservice to this blog if I didn’t post the interview heard round the world. Yes I’m talking about Bart “I’m-angry-and-ready-to-get-in-the-ring” Scott. This postgame was EPIC! I think that I’ve watched it at least once a day since Sunday and I laugh, every single time.

Don’t get it twisted, I love the guys passion and how he plays the game and if word got back to him that I said something about him, I’d have to pack my stuff up and move to Canada.

The best part of the video ?  … Yep, at the end where he looks like he wants to fight Sal Palontonio, looks him in the eye WWE style and says  ….  “Can’t Wait”.  I love it!!

The Race Card – A King Tribute

Happy Birthday MLK

”The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands in moments of challenge and controversy.” – Dr. Martin Luther King

Why are you always talking about race? .. .Why does it always have to be a black thing?  … Why are you always pulling the race card? Continue reading

A Rivalry By Any Other Name

The Florida-Georgia rivalry is one of my favorites

This weekend the Steelers and Ravens will go into battle and it has me thinking a lot about sports rivalries. The thing about sports rivalries is, it’s all about where you’re from. Growing up in Florida it was all about Florida vs Florida State. The sport could be basket weaving but as long as it was a Gator vs a Seminole hate was involved.

Allen Iverson at Georgetown where it all began

So word on the street is AI is about to call it quits. I wrote this last year but I thought i would repost. This is for all my AI fans. In the beginning … It was the year 1994 and as a Freshman in High School I instantly became a fan with #3 for the Georgetown Hoyas. As a lifelong Hoyas fan I was drawn to them because “I liked their colors”.
